Blocked Toilet? Here’s What You Can Do Before Calling a Plumber

Blocked Toilet

Plumbing issues like blocked toilets are common in Abu Dhabi. You could have a clogged toilet due to multiple reasons. For example, a common mistake most people make is flushing too much toilet paper or not cleaning the toilet properly, which leads to buildup in the pipes. Whatever the reason, the effects can be especially annoying when you start to notice puddles of water around your toilet or a nasty stink filling your bathroom. To properly and easily unclog your toilet, here’s what you should do.

Call a plumbing service

Calling in the professionals should be your first course of action. Blocked toilets may actually cause pipes to burst or crack if water is constantly being flushed down and has little elsewhere to go. An Abu Dhabi plumbing service company knows what it’s doing and can remove the blockage as well as repair any damage caused by it.

But if the problem is minor and you put your DIY skills to the test, you can try some effective home remedies such as:

Dishwasher liquid and hot water

If you have some dishwasher liquid lying around you can use that on your toilet. Once you’ve poured some into the toilet, pour at least 4 liters of hot (but not boiling) water after it. After a couple of hours, the clog should free up and you can just flush it away. But remember, this only works for very minor clogs.

Baking soda and vinegar

This is the oldest trick in the book. Take 1 cup of baking soda, and 1 cup of white vinegar and pour them into the toilet bowl. After waiting a few minutes you should then pour in a pot full of hot (but not boiling) water into the toilet bowl. This should unblock your toilet pretty well in the case of something a little more solid causing the blockage. Be warned though: excessive use of this method can cause your pipes to weaken.

Wire coat hanger

If the blockage is not too deep, for example, if the blockage is being caused by hair, then you can always unravel a coat hanger and tie a small rag on one end of the wire to pad it. Be sure to use rubber gloves so as not to get your hands dirty! Stick the padded side inside the toilet drain and twist it until the drain is cleared.

Plunger

Use a flange plunger or a specially designed toilet plunger that goes inside the drain. Submerge it in the water and then slowly push down to remove all air. This will create a suction that will pull out any minor clogs. Be careful not to use this method with toxic cleaning chemicals as they may splash out and harm you!

Hire a maid/cleaning service

A cleaning service can also handle your blocked toilet problem. Regular cleaning will prevent a blocked toilet and maintain not just the usability and cleanliness of your toilet but also of your bathroom as well. It is ideal to hire a maid to properly clean your toilets regularly and prevent any clogs from forming.

When it comes to blocked toilets, it’s best to not let your hands get dirty when a professional can handle it. At ServiceMarket, you can find the right plumbing service in Abu Dhabi
