If you’re moving soon, it’s the perfect opportunity to get rid of the unnecessary bits and pieces you have accumulated in your home. Scroll down for a move made all the more easy!
1. Old or unwanted clothes and shoes
Fashion styles don’t typically stick around for long and neither should all the clothes and shoes that are too small for you or you just don’t like anymore. Reduce your inventory by donating your old wardrobe to charities or make a bit of extra cash by selling your unwanted belongings.
2. Barely used appliances
There’s no point in bringing over unused and outdated appliances that do nothing beyond collecting dust. Free up space in your kitchen by trashing electronics that no longer work or give them away to someone if they are still operational.
3. Books you no longer want
The great thing about books is that they’re always a precious gift. If you have any books or novels that you’ve read and no longer want, then gift them to a friend or donate them to a school or coffee shop.
4. Worn furniture
In a new Dubai home, your old furniture might end up looking really out-of-place. Consider giving away rickety cupboards, slanted shelves and uneven tables to goodwill or someone who can make something else out of the parts.
5. Any food still in your refrigerator
Food items that spoil easily should already be tossed into the bin or consumed before your move. Check for expired items and leftovers that you can easily get rid of. If you absolutely have to bring over some eatables, then carry them with you in a cooler box
6. Messy liquids
Get rid of liquids that could potentially spill and ruin your packages immediately. Unless you really have to, transport liquids in secure plastic bottles – glass bottles may shatter and give you nasty cuts beside staining your belongings.
7. Old carpets, rugs, curtains and blinds
Like your old furniture, most rugs, drapes and blinds probably won’t fit the aesthetic of your new Dubai home, or may not be the right size. But that’s not all: you really wouldn’t want to carry over any pests you didn’t know about to your new, pristine abode. Toss them out or donate them, and outfit your home with beautiful new window curtains and blinds.
8. Extras
Do you honestly need all twelve of those assorted coffee mugs? Do yourself a huge favour by taking as many as you need and getting rid of any extras. You’d be surprised how many less boxes you’ll have to pack this way.
9. DVDs and CDs
DVDs and compact discs are quickly becoming obsolete as tech keeps evolving at an ever increasing pace. Save your music and movies on your computer rather than stack them on your shelves, and make your home more eco-friendly.
10. Toys
If your kids are already tired of them, then why not let them put a smile on another child’s face? Consider donating anything they haven’t touched in the past 6 months.
